Yoga Teacher Training

200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Karen will lead 200-hour alignment-based vinyasa yoga teacher training in the fall of 2024 in the gorgeous salt room at Aquarian Uprising. The course will be held over 8 weekends beginning the weekend of September 28/29 and ending November 23/24, with one weekend off in the middle TBA. Karen has been teaching this Yoga Alliance registered course since 2013.

We will focus on deepening your personal practice and the art of teaching yoga.  We will explore the physical body, the energetic body, and the mind, bringing the traditional practice into the modern context. Karen combines alignment-based Ashtanga yoga with classical vinyasa, and integrates Buddhist philosophy into the history of yogic thought.

The training includes daily practice of asana, pranayama, chanting and meditation, as well as instruction of physical and subtle body anatomy, philosophy, and teaching methodology.  We read the classic original texts, in approachable translations.  We focus on the assessment of a posture from a functional movement perspective, as well as the safe and appropriate hands-on assist to suit the individual.

We will be reading the following:

The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali by Chip Hartranft

The Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-Germain

The Hatha Yoga Pradipika by Swami Swatmarama translated by Pancham Sinh

The Bhagavad Gita : Pocket Edition by Swami Nikhilananda

Lindsea Stowe will be teaching afternoon asana workshop sessions, and we will have master teachers Asha Wolf for anatomy and Susan Chiocchi on the energy body, as well as guest teacher Nicola Farrer for prenatal yoga.

The cost is $3200 and includes all books and materials. You may repeat the course for 1/2 price; if you already have 200-hour certification from another school, the cost is only $2100.

Your $600 deposit will reserve your spot. Final payment is due the first day of the training. Pay by venmo @karene-vail or if you prefer to pay by credit card, you can do so here:

I feel so lucky to have found Karen’s 200 hour teacher training class. Besides being a wonderful and caring person, what really impressed me was Karen’s vast knowledge in all areas of yogic tradition. She is an amazing teacher and she makes everything very easy to comprehend and absorb. One fantastic aspect of her teacher training is the the warm acceptance for everyone and their views and beliefs. Honest and open discussions, where everyone was able to express their views and thoughts, were a very important and vital part of the training. And even though we were all in our masks because of the pandemic, we could always tell Karen was smiling throughout her practices and lectures and the joy she feels when she teaches was infectious.

I had the great chance of taking the 200 hour teacher training program with Karen this past fall and I have to say that it was truly a transformative experience! I didn’t know what to expect, but living in a western culture, I wasn’t prepared for anything of that magnitude!

Karen’s class did not solely touch on but thoroughly explained the technicality of the asanas, breathing, meditation (the tools), but also engaged us into a more spiritual approach on yoga and life, in general, igniting a thirst for a deeper inquiry and search into our own being and presence here, a broader view and understanding.

It is quite the task to try and find a true Teacher- a Guru, if you will-but I was fortunate to find the right one, right here in Vail!

When you discover your purpose you almost can’t turn away from it. You just know inside that you must dive in!

At first it was the practice of yoga that I fell in love with - I loved the physicality of the asana practice and the spirituality of the whole lifestyle. Over time - I needed more ... more lessons, more learning, more reading, more information .... and I knew that I wanted to share all of it with the world (or at least anyone who was interested!) I dove in and became a yoga teacher.

Karen and I met many years ago. Karen has become my TEACHER - my Guru - my “GO-TO”. She is smart, extremely knowledgeable, well read and studied! Karen is non-judgmental and encouraging - she always reminds me to look within for the answers to my questions. She is calm and steady and consistent.

When I decided to sign up for her 200-hour teacher training I was already a 200-hour certified yoga teacher BUT I knew that I would get so much more from Karen than I did the first time around at a different studio. AND I was RIGHT! We went much deeper into each topic from asana to bandha and Sanskrit to Sutras - it was a content rich course filled with history and explanation. I am already applying what I learned to my classes and have signed up for two more of Karen’s programs in 2021. I would pick Karen again and again - I trust her and love her!

I had been researching YTTs all over the country and I remember taking Karen’s yoga classes years ago in Vail. I decided to reach out to her and ask her about her YTT for this past Fall of 2022. I had been practicing yoga for many years and wanted to dive deeper into the practice.

I feel so grateful and blessed to have taken Karen Anderson’s 200hr YTT in Vail! It was so much deeper, more profound, informative and life changing in so many ways. Karen’s knowledge and her passion for yoga was evident. Her wisdom from her past experiences as a student and teacher was more than I ever expected. I appreciated learning the traditional forms of the asanas and our deep discussions about philosophy. I loved the chanting, Sanskrit and above all else, learning to live a more authentic life with awareness and compassion for each other and the world. I made some lifelong friends and the experience will forever be ingrained deep in my heart.

Thank you to Karen for her time, her energy, her intelligence and for helping this world become a better place one person at a time!

Karen’s 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training was a life changing experience for me. Being perhaps a non-typical student (a little older, a little stiffer than most) I was a bit nervous about what I could gain from it. I hoped to go deeper into the asana practice and the study of the other limbs of yoga appealed to me too. In fact all the elements of the training - morning asana practice, Sanskrit chanting, pranayama instruction and practice, meditation techniques, and classic yoga philosophy, all with Karen’s deeply knowledgeable guidance, came together to create a powerful and moving experience. The experience was heightened by being shared with a small group of beautiful, authentic seekers.

Karen’s teaching is grounded in traditional lineages with the underpinning of anatomy and the energy body. We learned how to go deeper into the poses and at the same time how to keep yoga safe for ourselves and future students. The afternoon workshops with Lindsea gave us a chance to break down the poses in a safe, supportive environment. Lindsea is a gifted and generous teacher and her inputs led to some of my asana breakthroughs! We also took gradual steps toward the practice of teaching yoga in the afternoon workshops. By the final weekend we were all ready to teach a one hour class. This was another great experience for all of us. I know I caught a glimpse of how rewarding it might be to share my love of yoga with others through teaching!

Karen Anderson’s 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training was a life-changing experience. The mere fact that we have such a renowned yoga instructor living in Vail Valley is a gift within itself.

I have been practicing yoga for 25 years and decided to explore Yoga Teacher Training to improve my practice. I was referred to Karen and excited to hear about her extensive yoga background in Iyengar, Ashtanga and she studied with one of America’s foremost teachers of yoga, Richard Freeman. Before I committed to Karen’s Yoga Teacher Training she graciously offered me a private yoga session. At the end of the practice while in Savasana, I knew that my journey would be with Karen.

Karen’s program was a comprehensive and intelligent course of study. The classes started with a physical practice followed by the history and philosophy of yoga. Then we focused on chanting, meditation, and pranayama. Next, we perfected our asanas and alignment. Karen taught the benefits of the postures and the students took turns teaching in front of the class. At the end of the day we studied human anatomy and how it relates to yoga. It was apparent early on how effective every segment of the training was in preparing to become a yoga instructor and how it was enhancing my own physical practice.

An unexpected gift was the meaningful friendships that were made among the students. We all supported one another and practiced together outside of class. We had amazing synergy. The last week of the Yoga Teacher Training was emotional because of the reality that the training was coming to an end.

Karen is completely authentic in her teaching, she reflects goodness in all of her communication, is intuitive, and has an innate ability to give you what you need to deepen and grow as a yogi. Karen gave me a new-found passion for yoga and thirst for learning. It gives me great joy to know that I will continue my yoga journey with Karen as my teacher.

Thank you, Karen, from the bottom of my heart.

Self-reflective, empowering, and insightful are three words I would use to describe Karen’s training. Karen is very knowledgeable, intelligent, and is deeply passionate about sharing her experiences and expertise with others. Her genuine nature to help gave us all a profound knowledge of how to reflect and embody the yoga lifestyle in our own lives, and then be able to share it with others. The small, intimate group was ideal for learning and better understanding the body and practice of yoga.

I had taken Karen’s yoga classes and loved them as my passion for yoga was growing. I was so incredibly happy when Karen was offering a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and immediately wanted in on it. It was truly the best 200 hours of my life so far. We had a number of books provided to read throughout the training that were wonderful to read, some had a little commentary in them to explain but I preferred to hear Karen’s commentary rather than what was in the book, she explains things so that you can have a knowledge of what you’re reading , and encourages you to ask questions to get the deeper understanding. Karen’s wisdom and insight is stunning to listen to. She will teach you how to bring yoga into your everyday life and better yourself and more so those surrounding you. Karen brings warmth to a room that makes you feel incredibly comfortable and non-judged. I am incredibly grateful for the teacher training experience and can’t wait to continue expanding my knowledge on this path!

Karen’s teacher training did so much more for me than teach me yoga. It kept me happy and healthy during a very tough time in my life as well as happy and healthy in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy. Karen’s style of approaching yoga and life has certainly changed and inspired mine..
— Liv Fagerholm
I took Karen’s yoga teacher training class in the fall of 2014. I would take the class 10 times over if I had the time. Karen taught me more than yoga poses, and alignment. I went home learning to face my authentic self and be honest about my journey and personal life. You will take home with you more than what you envisioned and exactly what you, personally need in your life. I couldn’t be more thankful for Karen, the class she taught, and the people I was able to learn with.
— Chanelle Fleury
Karen is a wonderful person and an incredible teacher. Her knowledge is vast, and I feel fortunate to benefit from her decades of experience. Whether we took the teacher training for professional goals or to deepen our personal practice, I think we were all enriched by the experience.
— Kat Jahnigan
Taking Karen’s teacher training was a great time for me. The timing was convenient for my schedule, which made it easy to spend the time deepening my practice. Going into the training I was not planning on actually leading classes, but to understand what I was spending my time doing. Karen did a great job with tying together the pieces of yoga in a non-judgmental way. She presented the material allowing us to make decisions on what we wanted to think. The importance of keeping people safe and all the physical aspects were well presented. Karen’s knowledge is deep and her fellow presenters did a great job. I recommend the class as great use of your time.
— Geordy Ogden
I am so glad I did my 200hr teacher training with Karen. Her training dove deep into postures, yoga philosophy and meditation, giving me an amazing foundation to build upon. Karen has so much wisdom and experience and I highly recommend her teacher training program.

Karen Anderson’s 200 hour CYT Course can be the beginning of your amazing journey too! I wanted to expand my yogic knowledge, deepen my practice and learn more about the history of Yoga in order to derive more “meaning” to this path I am on. I was hungry for more substance to bring to my mat as an Instructor and Karen is able to impart her knowledge in a patient, informative, easy to digest manner. I found she is able to disseminate a great deal of information in an organized, instructive, yet engaging way. Her program gave me a thirst to want to learn even more! She brought in fascinating Guest Speakers which added another dimension to our training. She always made time for Q & A sessions which is vital to a new student’s ability to learn & retain that information. And I feel she gave us all the necessary tools to become better students and amazing instructors as well!
